We Don’t Need No Stinking Copy Editors

I have been out of town attending a funeral and didn’t have time to write a post this week, so I thought I’d repeat one I did a guest post on. This is more for writers. I hope you enjoy. I Don’t Have to Use Any Stinking Copy Editors. There has been a lot of […]

Writing A Great Book

Mixing Concrete is Like Writing a Great Book I started out my “work life” mixing concrete. Concrete is extremely strong. It’s used for roads, for foundations that hold up skyscrapers and bridges, in dams that hold back rivers and lakes. There isn’t anything that can take the place of concrete. And the most amazing thing […]

A Kiss is Just a Kiss

A Kiss is Just a Kiss Or so states the line from As Time Goes By the song made immortal when Dooley Wilson sang it for Ingrid Bergman in the movie Casablanca. While a kiss might be just a kiss most of the time, there are special kisses. I bet you remember your first kiss, […]

Five Lies Your Character Can Tell

Lies, and How To Use Them One of the Ten Commandments is “thou shalt not lie,” but I’m not so sure that’s a good idea. Imagine me, or any guy, telling their wife— “Honey, you look terrible in that dress.” Not only will a comment like that cost you a smack in the face, it […]

How Writing is Like Laying Bricks

Anything Good Takes Time. I have read a lot of articles and advice from people about writing, and how writers should just write. Hurry up and write. Write. Write. Write. Somewhere in the article they mention, in passing, about making sure the quality is there, but the focus usually shifts back to writing fast so you can […]

Writing Lessons From A Pig

Why My Book is Delayed My next book, A Bullet For Carlos, is going to be delayed a bit, probably a month or two. I blame it all on Dennis, our crazy wild boar. No, he didn’t eat the only copy of the manuscript. And he didn’t destroy my hard drive. What Dennis did was […]

  • This blog will be a little different from many you see. Contrary to the characters in my books, I don’t really kill people, or catch those who do, so the blogs might be about reading, or writing, or animals. These are the things I have great passion for. It might also contain posts about food, or ancestry, or substance abuse. My oldest son is a great cook. My daughter is a genealogist (rootsintheboot.com) and my youngest son is a recovering drug addict. He has been clean for three years, and runs a rehab center (intoactionrecovery.com).

I hope you enjoy the posts, and please let me know what you think.

    Ciao,

    Giacomo
