Remembering Those Who Passed

We Will Miss You We lost a lot of good friends at the sanctuary this year. Yes, we have a lot of animals left—46—but that doesn’t take away from the ones we lost. I wrote about a few of them in these posts: Luigi in Everything Has A Purpose, Cool Pig, in Toughest Decision of […]

Writing Tough Characters

What My Animals Teach Me About Writing. There are thousands of books for sale that offer advice on writing, but I don’t buy any of them. I have all the advice I need right here on the animal sanctuary. There is nothing like several dozen animals to teach you about…well…damn near anything. It seems like […]

What Color Are You?

What Color Are You? It’s amazing in these enlightened times that I have to ask this question, but I do. I don’t mean are you white, or black, or brown, or any shade in between? We all know that doesn’t matter. Right? …Right? So let’s get to the real issue. What color are you—on the […]

Dennis Goes For A Walk

My Best Buddy I have been swamped, getting my new book out this week, among a million other things, so I didn’t have time to do a proper blog post. As I was thinking of what to write about I got an email from a reader who asked if Dennis, my wild boar, really goes […]

I’m Supposed to Be Dead

Inspiration I’m Dennis. Ya’ll know me by now. Giacomo saved me when I was just a baby, but now I can take care of myself. It was touch and go for a while; the vet even told Giacomo to, “put him down.” Imagine that! It had me worried, but I had some good advice from […]

A Kiss is Just a Kiss

A Kiss is Just a Kiss Or so states the line from As Time Goes By the song made immortal when Dooley Wilson sang it for Ingrid Bergman in the movie Casablanca. While a kiss might be just a kiss most of the time, there are special kisses. I bet you remember your first kiss, […]

Everything Has A Purpose

Dante and Luigi Have you ever been reading the book and you wondered why a particular character was in there? One of the most important things in writing is to make sure that each character has a purpose. You can’t just put characters in to fill space; they have to have a reason for being […]

Toning Down the Truth

Sometimes You Have to Lie to Make Your Writing Believable My first book was published in April, and in late May I got emails from a few readers. Two of them said how much they loved the book, but they found it difficult to believe that six-year-old kids would have been smoking. Everything else they […]

An Erotic Rendezvous

Writing Erotica I have always tried to keep my posts “G-rated,” but with all the excitement over Fifty Shades of Grey and the landslide of books following it, I felt I had to do something drastic. Keep in mind, this character is not me. I swear. Temptation I was feeling a little down, and quite lazy […]

Writing Lessons From A Pig

Why My Book is Delayed My next book, A Bullet For Carlos, is going to be delayed a bit, probably a month or two. I blame it all on Dennis, our crazy wild boar. No, he didn’t eat the only copy of the manuscript. And he didn’t destroy my hard drive. What Dennis did was […]

  • This blog will be a little different from many you see. Contrary to the characters in my books, I don’t really kill people, or catch those who do, so the blogs might be about reading, or writing, or animals. These are the things I have great passion for. It might also contain posts about food, or ancestry, or substance abuse. My oldest son is a great cook. My daughter is a genealogist (rootsintheboot.com) and my youngest son is a recovering drug addict. He has been clean for three years, and runs a rehab center (intoactionrecovery.com).

I hope you enjoy the posts, and please let me know what you think.

    Ciao,

    Giacomo
